Twizel iHub Outdoor Activity and Information Centre

The Twizel iHub Outdoor Activity and Information Centre is a huge new retail outlet in Twizel, the gateway to Aoraki Mount Cook in the Mackenzie Region of New Zealand. The iHub offers the outdoor enthusiast the opportunity to glean information from the locals, book activities, accommodation, transport and tours, and even buy or hire walking, hiking and mountain biking equipment.

The Twizel iHub Information Centre is staffed by experienced Information Centre staff, all of whom are keen local outdoor enthusiasts and most of whom are also local Tour Guides who are able to recommend and book trips, activities, accommodation and transport for you. This comprehensive outdoor activities and Information centre has plenty of local information and is able to book your accommodation and transport and, most importantly, will provide the most recent weather forecast.. We'd strongly advise getting our ‘locals’ weather forecast around the Mount Cook area before attempting any flights, tours, walking or hiking in this region as the weather here can vary dramatically from mountain to mountain or lake to lake.

The iHub is one of the few places in New Zealand that has a Lord of the Rings display of official merchandise and the replica items used in the filming of the LOTR Trilogy. Drink the Lord of the RIngs beer and take home a LOTR book. Both the 1 hour and 2 hour Lord of the Rings Tours leave from the iHub. The LOTR film site is only a 10 minute drive from Twizel but is on private land only accessible on these official tours.

Twizel iHub Outdoor Activity and Information Centre also has a range of outdoor clothing and outdoor equipment including some of our well known, New Zealand made outdoor clothing and equipment brands such as Earth Sea Sky outdoor performance clothing and Cactus Backcountry backpacks and accessories.

Also based in the iHub is a Mountain Bike Shop run by Helibike.com. This is the only mountain bike shop in this part of New Zealand, covering Twizel, Tekapo, Ohau and Omarama. The iHub Bike Shop has a small selection of mountain bike parts, clothing and accessories and a range of mountain biking trips to suit all mountain biking abilities. We are able to courier spare parts into the shop within 2 working days to cater for emergency bike repairs if we don’t have your required item in stock. The bike shop has a part time mechanic so please note regular servicing and maintenance is by prior arrangement only.

If you want to mountain bike on your own rather than in one of our mountain bike tours, the iHub Mountain Bike Shop also has a range of mountain bikes for hire. The Hire Bikes can be rented for 2 hours onwards. All bikes come with a helmet, puncture repair kit and local map, if required.
